Expected Events for 1999: Singers, dancers,
pipers, fiddlers, harpers, weavers storytellers, linguists and historians
came from Canada and the US for four days of education, performance and
celebration. Seven tracks of workshops and lectures in six subjects
lasting from Friday afternoon through Sunday allowed participants to focus
in one area while also taking introductory classes in other disciplines.
The tracks included beginning and intermediate G�idhlig language
instruction, History and Culture, Pipes, Fiddle, Cl�rsach and Dance.
Evening events included an opening night ceilidh that started with a
panel discussion on the interplay of the various Gaelic art forms and
continued with performances by various musical and dance groups. The
second evening featured the storytelling of Norman Kennedy, renowned
weaver, knitter, singer and storyteller. The third evening featured Cuirm
nan Gaidheal (Feast of Gaeldom), a theatrical production presented by
Seinneadairean G�idhlig Shi�tal (Seattle Gaelic Singers). The first half
of the production was the portrayal of an 18th century pre-English
speaking Highland village c�ilidh, that included singing, piping, dancing,
harping and waulking the tweed. The second half represented the twentieth
century Gael in North America in a very different sort of c�ilidh
featuring stylish Scottish grunge. The show closed out with the Gaelic
choirs from Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia joining the Seattle
choir for several massed choral numbers.

into a major event on the circuit. We hope to be the last stop in the Pacific Northwest for the season.
