General Information and Procedures

Location: Hovander Park, Ferndale, WA. Maps and direction are available on the next page.

Competition Rules and Eligibility: The piping and drumming, and band competitions of the Bellingham Highland Games will be conducted under the rules and music requirements of the British Columbia Pipers Association, see the BCPA website www.bcpipers.org for details of these rules. Competitors must be members of the BCPA or an officially affiliated piping/pipe band association (ANAPBA member associations – OPS and WPA are NOT included) or pay an additional charge as noted on the registration pages that follow. Members of the affiliated organizations should submit proof with their entries.

Entry Schedule and Gate Passes:
1. Entries must be made by May 5, 2013.
2. No field or phone entries.
3. Pipe Bands must send an official band roster (playing members only) with the entry form.
4. There will be NO REFUNDS of Park admission fees for band or solo competitors who do not have a gate pass/number in hand when they enter Pioneer Park.

Order of Play: First to enter will be last to perform. This applies to solo competitors only. Competitors not ready to play in the posted order may be disqualified. Draws for band contest orders of play will take place on May 19, 2013 and will be posted on the Bellingham Games website www.bhga.org.

Highland Dress: Competitors must appear in recognizable and appropriate highland dress.

Pipe Bands:
1. A fourth prize will be awarded if at least six bands compete.
2. The grade 5 bands event is for entry-level bands only.
3. No challenging up.

Massed Bands/Opening Ceremonies:
1. Pipe Bands which appear at Opening Ceremonies (noon) and Closing Massed Bands will receive $100.00.
2. Pipe Bands must appear at Closing Massed Bands in order to receive prize and appearance money. Closing Massed Bands will commence immediately after the end of the band competition.
3. Other than during massed bands, there will be NO playing allowed during opening ceremonies. This applies to bands, pipe corps, drum corps, or individuals. Violation of this rule may result in disqualification from competition.

Entry Fees:
Grade 1-5 & Adult Solo Events | $10.00 per event (members)
Professional Solo Events | $15.00 per event (members)
Grade 5 Bands | $60.00 (members)
Grade 4 Bands | $70.00 (members)
Grade 3 Bands | $80.00 (members)
Grade 2 Bands | $90.00 (members)
Grade 1 Bands | $100.00 (members)

All fees and prizes are payable in U.S. Funds. Competitors must be current members of the B.C. Piper’s Association or an affiliated piping /pipe band organization (ANAPBA member association) OR pay a surcharge of $4.50 per solo event or $60.00 for band events. Only once per year, a band may request that this additional fee be waived.
